]]>Flight delays and extensive layovers have never been healthier. Those bothersome hours you once spent waiting for time to tick away can now be used to improve your wellness, thanks to a pair of brands.
Therabody, a leading wellness tech company, announced the installation of its first vending machine at the San Francisco International Airport. The machines carry several recovery devices, including the brand’s signature massage guns, for travelers to pick up and use easily in transit.
While this innovation is indeed a first for Therabody, it’s not for the industry at large. Supplement brand AG1 recently released its own vending machines, also at the San Francisco Airport. AG1 powders include vitamins, minerals, probiotics and whole-food-sourced nutrients to enhance energy levels, cognitive function and gut health. AG1 machine rollouts in additional airports including Houston, Chicago O’Hare and Oakland are expected in the future.
But even outside of these initiatives, wellness and wings have been a popular duo of late. Earlier this year, the Melbourne Airport launched its first-ever health club and wellness center, referred to as Higher State, while Roam Fitness opened a gym in the Philadelphia International Airport last year.
Therabody itself has partnered with United Airlines to offer international business class travelers amenity kits featuring eye serum, face spray, hand cream and a cleansing towelette.
These all represent worthwhile investments, as data reflects that health and wellness are often top-of-mind for today’s passengers, sometimes even as the driving force behind their traveling tendencies. The Global Wellness Institute projects wellness tourism, defined as travel associated with the pursuit of maintaining or enhancing one’s personal well-being, to grow by 10.2% annually from 2023 to 2028, exceeding global GDP growth.

]]>Soccer pro Cristiano Ronaldo is rounding out 2024 with a new venture, AVA, a recovery technology brand featuring recovery boots, massage guns and light, heat and cold therapy devices.
Ronaldo announced the launch of AVA—a shortened moniker for Advanced Recovery for Athletes—on social media, sharing that he’s poured his athletic experience into the recovery tech brand to help others improve their recovery game and increase their performance.
It’s Ronaldo’s latest move in the fitness and wellness industry, having partnered with Avanutri to bring AVA to the forefront of the booming recovery space and compete with the likes of Hyperice and Therabody.
The Al-Nassr Football Club player recently made an undisclosed yet sizable investment in personalized supplement maker Bioniq, upping its valuation to $82 million. Earlier this year, Ronaldo also launched Erakulis, a wellness app, and signed with human performance wearable brand Whoop as an investor and brand ambassador.
The Portugal-based AVA also sells an AquaBag Ball and AquaBag Cylinder as home-based fitness gear.
Recovery technology has become more than a trend, with even everyday fitness enthusiasts engaging in post-workout treatments as part of their holistic health and fitness regimen.

]]>The post Product of the Week: Therabody’s Theragun Prime Is an Affordable Massager appeared first on Athletech News.
]]>As the flagship massage device from wellness tech company Therabody, Theraguns are popular tools for relieving muscle pain and soreness, reducing tension and improving circulation.
Therabody’s Theragun Prime model is an easy-to-use, more affordable version of the tool, perfect for a loved one or family member who might want a simpler way to access percussive therapy.
Athletech News tested the Theragun Prime to see how it compares to other percussive therapy devices and massage guns on the market.
Pros
The Theragun Prime has five speeds that you can either control with the app or on the gun itself. It’s powerful, with speeds up to 2400 PPM, along with a 120-minute total battery life and the quintessential Theragun ergonomic triangle multi-grip.
At $299 (on sale for $199) the Theragun Prime is significantly cheaper than other Theragun models, compared to the $599 Pro Plus and the $399 Prime Plus. The Prime is also the same weight (and much of the same functionality) as the Elite, at 2.2 pounds, but is around $100 less expensive.
The Prime is much quieter than other massage guns on the market, with a scratch-resistant design perfect for gym visits. It comes with four attachment heads, including the Heated Percussive Plus Attachment, the Standard Ball Plus Attachment, the Dampener Plus Attachment, and the Wedge Plus Attachment, which is perfect for specific areas around the shoulder blades and IT bands.
I found that the Theragun Prime was perfect for workout warmups and recovery, and using it 3-4 times a week for 5-10 minutes significantly reduced pain and soreness, even from working at a desk. It was surprisingly easy to reach even the upper back due to the ergonomic and triangular design of the massage gun.
Cons
With only four head attachments, the Theragun Prime has fewer than other models, which could come into play for those who want to target very specific areas of the body. It’s also not the most portable, particularly compared to the Mini, which is perfect to stick in a gym bag.
In addition, while the Therabody app is a comprehensive and well-designed tool, for those who want to use the Prime in a standalone manner, the product isn’t as comprehensive as the Theragun Pro Plus’s screen.
Final Thoughts
Overall, the Theragun Prime is a more affordable tool for percussive therapy, with a quieter and more effective design than other models. Right now, it’s $199 (compared to $299 normally) for the holiday season, and it’s HSA and FSA-friendly.

]]>The post Therabody Launches New Products for the 2024 Holiday Season appeared first on Athletech News.
]]>Therabody continues to innovate, launching a new suite of products that cater to a wide range of wellness needs. No longer just a muscle recovery technology, Therabody is now well known in the wellness and skincare spaces. The brand’s newest products, mainly focused on leg recovery and sleep improvements, officially launched, just in time for the holiday season.
SmartGoggles Gen 2
Looking for a solution for stress and tension headaches? The second generation of the Therabody SmartGoggles promotes better sleep, reduced stress and improved relaxation. The product’s SmartRelax treatment uses a biometric sensor to vibrate based on your heart rate, perfect for slowing racing thoughts. Therabody has also created a comprehensive app that includes TheraMind, which has a range of meditations and sound therapy content. It’s perfect for travel, with a 100% black-out and foldable design. The SmartGoggles are too bulky for all-night wear but perfect for your pre-bed ritual.
SleepMask
Therabody’s SleepMask is ready to take your sleep to the next level and is designed for all-night wear. It has a 100% blackout design and has three vibration patterns to improve sleep. The vibration gradually fades as you drift off to sleep and automatically stops after 15 minutes. The mask also comes with a travel case for easy storage or packing to get you through long flights. Best of all, it’s easy to clean, with a machine-washable inner padding layer.
Theragun Prime Plus
The Theragun Prime Plus is the latest and greatest in percussive therapy, combining a deep tissue massage with heat therapy. One major upgrade—the device is quieter and lighter than other generations and less cumbersome in the locker room, the gym or at home. The Theragun Prime Plus has five different massage speeds and three heat intensity levels, with a 120-minute battery life. Take care of all your aching muscles with four attachments: heated percussive for warmup and recovery, the dampener for tender or sensitive muscles, the standard ball for all muscles, and the wedge, perfect for shoulder blades or IT bands.
JetBoots PRO Plus
The JetBoots PRO Plus is one of the most advanced recovery boots on the market, ready to take recovery to the next level. The boots combine wireless pneumatic compression with vibration and infrared LED light therapy for recovery that is 2x faster and more effective than compression alone. It comes with eight preset treatments designed by sports scientists, including Recovery, Warm-Up, Lower Leg, Upper Leg, Joint Therapy and Sleep Prep. The boots come in short, regular and long and have an easy-to-clean surface.
JetBoots Prime
The JetBoots Prime are wireless compression boots designed to refresh legs, reduce soreness and improve performance. Their ultra-portable, foldable design makes them a perfect recovery tool on the go, whether you’re traveling for a competition or just need quick relief after a workout. They are easy to clean, with medical-grade materials to prevent bacteria buildup, so they can withstand sweaty legs after the toughest workouts. The boots are also size-inclusive and come in short, regular and long.
In addition to the new launches, Therabody also released the TheraFace Depuffing Wand in August, a portable heat and cold therapy skincare device. In clinical studies, Therabody found that 65% of participants reported a reduced appearance of puffy eyes and increased skin firmness and radiance after one use.
“At Therabody, we’re continuously looking to develop effective products that support our customers in performing, recovering, and feeling better so they can keep doing the things they love,” said CEO Monty Sharma. “We are all excited our latest innovations are here to support every type of consumer, from those running a marathon to those just looking for a better night’s rest.”

]]>Therabody has announced its latest innovation, the TheraFace Depuffing Wand, as the company continues to invest in skincare technology. The portable skincare device delivers both heat and cold treatments to improve skin firmness and elasticity. The device is a breakthrough solution for individuals seeking visible skincare results on the go.
“At Therabody, we’re committed to expanding our beauty offerings with science-backed products that truly make a difference in people’s lives,” said Monty Sharma, President and CEO of Therabody. “Our partnership with Sephora exemplifies this commitment to innovation and efficacy. The TheraFace Depuffing Wand reflects our mission to empower people to look and feel their best.”
The TheraFace Depuffing Wand was developed in collaboration with the beauty giant Sephora. The wand offers up to 30 minutes of use and charges via USB-C. It can easily fit into travel kits for on-the-go skincare. The product offers a cold treatment, a heat treatment and contrast therapy with an easy-glide applicator tip.
The device can be used to reduce undereye puffiness, brighten skin and improve product absorption. In clinical studies, 78.9% of participants showed enhanced skin firmness, while 91.2% experienced improvements in elasticity after just one use. Expert grading also demonstrated improvements in skin radiance.
Earlier this year, Therabody invested over $10 million into scientific research initiatives, forming a Scientific Advisory Board and partnering with the American College of Sports Medicine (ACSM). The company also has Therabody Labs, an in-house team of scientists and engineers to test and optimize their products.
The TheraFace Depuffing Wand is the latest addition to Therabody’s successful beauty line, following the TheraFace PRO and the TheraFace Mask. The TheraFace DePuffing Wand will have the lowest price point of all three beauty products at $149.
Starting September 3, the TheraFace Depuffing Wand will be available for purchase online and in stores at Therabody and Sephora.com.

]]>The post Delta Gets In on Wellness Travel Boom With New JFK Lounge appeared first on Athletech News.
]]>As wellness takes flight, Delta is beginning to prove that it’s not the destination, but the journey, as the major airline is the latest to invest in relaxing amenities for its premium guests.
The carrier has opened its new Delta One Lounge at New York’s John F. Kennedy International Airport right in time for peak summer travel, offering jet setters an exclusive space to indulge in wellness-centered perks.
Delta One Lounge guests can reserve relaxation pods featuring full-body massage and nap chairs from Human Touch, take in a massage or facial treatment with Grown Alchemist products, sip on a non-alcoholic beverage or fruit and herb-infused drinks at the Rejuvenation Bar or relax in the Serenity Lounge, complete with lighting that prepares the body to adjust to a new time zone.
Travelers will also discover a full suite of recovery products from wellness tech brand Hyperice at the new lounge. For those looking to freshen up, there are eight shower suites stocked with towels, bathrobes and slippers.
It’s a new era for Delta, according to Delta Sky Clubs and Lounge Experience vice president Claude Roussel.
“Our teams have spared no detail to ensure Delta One Lounge guests receive a truly memorable experience,” Roussel said. “We want our guests to feel the difference here; moreover, we want them to feel welcomed and valued from the moment they step through the door.”
Other airlines have made similar moves to appeal to wellness-seeking travelers. Last year, United and Therabody partnered to treat international business class guests to TheraFace comfort products and Therabody devices during flights. The airline has also introduced in-airport Therabody Reset Suites at its United Polaris lounges across the country, providing spaces featuring Therabody wellness technology and skin and body care products.
Cathay Pacific’s The Pier First-Class Lounge at the Hong Kong International Airport also ensconces travelers in luxury with a dedicated wellness area with day suites, massage services and shower rooms.
Airports are also proving to be an emerging hub for fitness, so travelers can stick to their workout regimens on the go. The Melbourne Airport opened its first full-service health club and wellness center this month — Higher State — offering personal training, group fitness, reformer Pilates, yoga, an indoor pool and recovery amenities such as compression therapy and wellness treatments.
The concept joins Roam Fitness, which opened a gym inside the bustling Philadelphia International Airport last year.

]]>Australian flyers are trading neck pillows for bench press headrests, seats in a terminal for those on a bike and portable movie players for connected fitness consoles.
The Melbourne Airport just launched its first-ever health club and wellness center, called Higher State, a gym concept that will welcome travelers, hotel guests, airport staff and local community residents.
Higher State includes a full gym setup to house functional training, personal training, group exercise classes, reformer Pilates and yoga. It also includes a 25-meter indoor pool, infrared sauna, a meditation pod, compression recovery, virtual sessions and signature wellness treatments administered by a trained therapist.
It’s a strong investment in health and wellness set to receive equally strong support, as Belgravia Leisure, an Australian health and fitness provider with over 60 clubs in Australia and New Zealand, will supervise the now up-and-running operation.
It’s a justified investment as well, as Belgravia Leisure understands how taxing the flying experience can be.
“It is well known that air passengers can be prone to undesirable effects on the body including fatigue, jet lag, insomnia and even digestive issues,” said Bree Melotte, a Belgravia Leisure wellness expert. “Our massages significantly boost circulation, increasing the blood flow meaning more oxygen is delivered to tired muscles, promoting faster recovery and a reduction in fatigue. Additionally, our compression recovery offering uses air to massage a traveler’s legs, glutes and lower back areas to provide a deep pressure and relaxing massage – the perfect post-flight care plan.”
Belgravia Leisure reports Higher State is within a walkable distance from the airport’s Terminal 4, residing in its new, duel-branded Novotel and ibis Styles hotels.
Groundbreaking as this move may seem, it isn’t the first time someone’s attached wings to health and wellness. Roam Fitness launched a gym in Terminal F at the Philadelphia International Airport last year. United, meanwhile, recently reached a deal with Therabody to introduce the brand’s wellness tech products and devices to its international business class passengers.
Simple Flying also reports five other cities with fitness centers in their airports, including Chicago and Vancouver, as of last summer. The rise in wellness-related travel and the added momentum in Melbourne argue it’s just the start of the airport gym boom.

]]>The post These 9 Luxury Wellness Products Will Elevate Your Self-Care Game appeared first on Athletech News.
]]>If you live in NYC or LA, you’ve probably seen social wellness clubs like Remedy Place, Pause Studio, or The Well popping up all over your city.
These days, no matter your commitment level to health and fitness, it seems like everyone and their mother has dabbled in wellness activities such as cold plunging, sauna sessions, hyperbaric oxygen chambers, and more. Thanks to Instagram and TikTok, healthy living has become more mainstream than ever, but even still, a wellness club membership is pricey.
If you don’t live in a metropolitan area or you’re not ready to pay for yet another membership, we’ve got you covered with this list of at-home wellness devices, gadgets and products.
The key to creating a luxury wellness club vibe at home is selecting items that promote relaxation, physical health and mental well-being all at the same time. It can be as simple as adding a cryo ball to your morning routine or as extravagant as purchasing your very own plunge pool for your backyard.
If you’re interested in upping your wellness game, but not sure where to start, anything and everything on this list will have you well on your way.
If you have limited space at home, this innovative sauna blanket delivers the same benefits as a steam room or walk-in sauna. It’s basically an at-home sweat machine that uses far-infrared technology and lightwaves to directly heat the body instead of heating the air around you. In just one session you can expect to feel instant relief from muscle soreness.
One buyer uses it “daily to help increase my sluggish lymph flow” and “looks forward to climbing in and being enveloped in warmth.” Use it at the beginning of the day or at night to help you fall asleep.
This $100 chair-style back massager is an Amazon best-seller because it’s easy to use while working from home or chilling on the couch. It delivers a Japanese shiatsu-style massage that targets pressure points and expertly mimics the feel of hands. One buyer purchased hers in 2020 “to alleviate my lower back pains, and it has been a daily essential ever since,” she notes. It only has one heat setting, but you can choose between 5, 10 or 15-minute sessions.
These wireless state-of-the-art compression boots from Therabody are pricey but they’re the definition of no hassle. Wear them in bed or on the couch without having to worry about plugging them in. They are available in three different sizes and come with control panels seamlessly built in and with the pumps hidden in the base of the boot.
There are four pressure settings (up to a powerful 100 mmHg) and best of all, you can control the boots manually or via the Therabody app.
The pros of cryotherapy are endless, but you don’t need a full-on cryo chamber in your house to reap the benefits. Start by investing in this $25 bestselling cryo massage roller ball from Amazon. “I constantly leave mine in the freezer and use it on the back of my neck when I have migraines coming on,” says one buyer. It’s also perfect for pre- and post-workout recovery, but also helps with joint pain, foot pain like plantar fasciitis, arthritis, carpal tunnel, and overall mobility improvement.
If your goal is to be relaxed, one thing you’ll need is a plush, comfy robe. This nearly $200 one is crafted from a luxurious blend of cotton and bamboo that’ll feel so soft against your skin.
“I was blown away by the quality of this product. 12/10 Highly recommended as a gift to a significant other,” raves a buyer. Pro tip: size up for extra comfort.
Cold plunging is not easy, but it’s worth it. Just a few minutes a day and you’ll feel more energized, less stressed, and an improved sleeping experience. So if you’re ready to invest in a legit cold plunge tub, this is the only one worth buying. It cools to 39 degrees, has an ozone sanitation system, is easy to set up and plug in, and comes with an insulated cover so you can store in or outdoors. The brand’s site is flooded with 5-star reviews.
“My daily routine has jumped through the roof,” raves one buyer.
For anyone experiencing joint pain in their hands, these FDA-cleared, red light therapy gloves are clinically proven to reduce inflammation, pain, and irritation associated with joint conditions. The gloves “helped the pain in my hand from arthritis after just a few uses,” noted one buyer.
For those interested in anti-aging, they also rejuvenate the skin by helping to reduce sunspots, pigmentation, wrinkles, dry cracking skin, and uneven skin tone. All it takes is 10 minutes a few times a week.
If you’re looking to level up your fitness, this under $40 smart scale will tell you everything you need to know about your body composition. The Amazon Choice scale supports up to eight users and measures your weight, body fat percentage, BMI, and muscle mass so you can accurately track if you’re losing weight or gaining muscle. It comes with four AAA batteries and sends data via Bluetooth to the brand’s easy-to-use app. It’s also compatible with other major health apps, including Apple Health, and Google Fit.
Rebounding is an excellent way to promote lymphatic drainage, which is especially important as we age. Not to mention, it’s actually very fun and efficient (fun fact: 10 minutes of bounce exercise equals 1 hour jogging, 30 minutes cycling or 20 minutes swimming). This compact model, which is also foldable, fits in any tiny corner of your home. “I was not expecting to fall in love with this form of exercise so quickly…I feel alive when I jump,” raves one buyer.

]]>The post Hyperice Launches Wireless, Ultra-Portable Version of Normatec Boots appeared first on Athletech News.
]]>Hyperice has released its long-awaited Normatec Elite, a wireless version of the brand’s famous recovery boots that are portable enough to be carried in a tote bag.
The product is free of hoses and separate control units; instead, the controls are located on the outer thigh of the boot. Normatec Elite has seven levels of compression and a 4-hour battery life. At only 3.2 pounds per boot, the product is the lightest air compression boot on the market, according to Hyperice. It’s small enough to fit in a tote bag but expands to the size of standard compression boots. The boots can also be used while charging for on-demand therapy, and Normatec Elite connects to the Hyperice App for recovery personalization experiences.
Compared to similar competitors, Normatec Elite has more zones (targeted areas of the legs) for increased attention during therapy sessions. The two boots are also synced to ensure a symmetrical massage despite separate control units on each leg.
Normatec’s technology has come a long way from its bulky external control units and extensive accompanying wires. The original version of the recovery boots was $4,000; Normatec Elite boots are priced at only $999.
Normatec, which was acquired by Hyperice in 2020 in a move that saw founder Gilad Jacobs join the recovery tech company as chief innovation officer, has partnerships U.S. Ski & Snowboard, USA Triathlon, and several pro cycling teams. Today, the devices are used by athletes like LeBron James Dwyane Wade and celebrities including Lady Gaga and Drake.
Hyperice, which also makes high-tech recovery products like massage guns, contrast therapy devices and more, has been embroiled in a legal battle with rival Therabody. Hyperice has lodged patent-infringement claims against Therabody, while Therabody has responded with defamation claims.
Jim Huether, Hyperice’s CEO, recently told Athletech News that he believes the defamation suit was an attempt by Therabody to shift the focus away from the patent-infringement litigation.

]]>The post The Best Father’s Day Gifts for Fitness Dads appeared first on Athletech News.
]]>Dads should be celebrated every day of the year, but Father’s Day is right around the corner on Sunday, June 16, and it’s the perfect opportunity to remind him of how much you care. If your dad happens to be an outdoor enthusiast or fitness junkie, you’ve come to the right place.
Active dads tend to be particular about what they like – from their favorite running sneakers to the latest in tech gadgets, but that doesn’t mean you can’t surprise them with something they didn’t know they needed. Maybe he’s in the market for a new piece of at-home workout equipment, and in that case, this Rowing Machine is 40% off right now. If he’s always on the go and deserves a little R&R, these Active Recovery Shoes are a sure bet.
When it comes to making a selection, you know the dad (or dads) in your life best. Rest assured, there’s something on this list that he’ll love.
It’s a fact: Dads are suckers for high quality leather goods. Instead of getting him a wallet or belt like you always do, why not surprise him with a genuine leather iPhone case? It’s a simple upgrade that he wouldn’t think to get himself, but one that makes a big difference. The look and feel of this Mujjo case “is perfectly on par with Apple’s now defunct leather cases,” explains one buyer.
The under $60 design features luxe premium European leather tanned in the Netherlands and ages beautifully over time. It’s lined with a satin-like Japanese microfibre, has clicky metal button covers and a 1mm raised leather bezel that protects the screen from getting scratched. “If you are looking for a case that feels premium and looks wonderful, this one is a safe bet,” adds the 5-star reviewer. And yes, it’s MagSafe compatible so you can still charge your device wirelessly.
If you haven’t heard, as of the end of last year Skims is the official underwear partner of the NBA, the WNBA and USA Basketball. And for good reason. Men love Kim Kardashian’s intimates line just as much as women. For Father’s Day you can’t go wrong gifting the brand’s best-selling boxer brief 3-pack for under $50. Most notably, the breathable cotton boxer briefs are constructed with a super smooth, stretchy fabric that hugs your body without being too clingy. They “feel great, almost like I almost have nothing on,” raves one buyer. Others note the high quality, one saying “once you go SKIMS you never go back!” And they are, of course, complete with the official SKIMS logo detailing on the soft-touch elastic waistband.
Whether the dad in your life is super active or simply enjoys a good deep tissue massage, a TheraGun will be a welcome gift. The cult-favorite brand is by far the best in the at-home percussion therapy game, and this $299 model tops our list. While there’s no shortage of models, the Prime is the most powerful, easy to use option at this price point. It provides the same deep tissue treatment (reaching 16 millimeters into soft tissue) of more expensive models and has customizable speeds up to 2400 percussions per minute. It features the brand’s iconic triangular ergonomic grip (which makes it easy to massage your back), four interchangeable heads and a 30-pound stall force, and is made with QuietForce technology that’s not obnoxiously loud. While it’s not the most portable massage gun from the line, it’s not heavy at 2.2 pounds and is comfortably sized for dad to keep handy at home.
As the weather starts to warm up, dads everywhere will be trading in their cozy sweatpants for breezy shorts. Enter: these best selling Lululemon men’s workout shorts, now available in a by demand, linerless style. The relaxed-fit style, which comes in your choice of 5”,7” or 9” is made of a lightweight, sweat-wicking fabric that’ll keep him dry and comfortable, no matter the activity. The versatile bottoms come in sizes XS to XXXL as well as 18 color options (from basics like white and black to bold colors like hot pink or bright red).
For the dad that’s ready to get back into an at-home fitness routine, this rowing machine is currently 40% off, priced at just $160. The compact machine weighs just 45 pounds and has a handy built-in base wheel so it can be moved around with ease. “Its slimline design and weight makes it easy to tuck into any corner of a room without taking up space or being an “eyesore” – you truly don’t even notice it’s in a room at all,” shares a 5-star reviewer. Even more, it features an ultra smooth and quiet magnetic flywheel system. “It’s completely silent which makes it possible to work out at any time of the day without disturbing anyone,” they add. Reinforced titanium alloy rails are super stable, preventing any flip-overs when in motion and it even has ergonomic seating.

As any dad who loves a clean shave knows, having the right razor is everything. Spare no expense for your favorite guy with this Amazon Choice bestseller that one 5-star reviewer calls the “best shave possible from an electric razor,” adding that it has “consistently given me the closest and least irritating shave” ever. (Editor’s note: This also happens to be the exact shaver my dad swears by.) The under $300 grooming tool comes with all the bells and whistles: It’s 100% waterproof, offers a wet or dry shave, includes a pop-up trimmer, is cordless and is fast charging. The Series 9 device features 40,000 cutting actions that cut every hair as close as 0.05mm and the 10,000 sonic vibrations let the shaver glide over skin with ease. “It is more maneuverable, needing fewer passes around the jawline and under the chin,” adds the same buyer.
Bonus: The signature Clean&Charge station automatically cleans, lubricates, dries and charges your shaver at the touch of a button.
Sporty and tech-y dads alike will love these futuristic AI-powered sunglasses from the new Eddie Bauer x Lucyd collection. They may look like his favorite everyday classics, but don’t be fooled. These stylish smart glasses will effortlessly keep your favorite guy connected to the digital world. Much like your iPhone, they have bluetooth capability, a built-in microphone and are chatGPT enabled to play music and take calls (and in 5 languages). The Eddie Bauer Velocity style is universally flattering with a horizontal bar across the nose, with rounded lens frames that flare out at the top corners. They come in a variety of fun lens and frame shades and even come in a blue light blocking option for working at your computer. Plus, you’ll receive a complimentary charging dock (typically $35) with purchase.
If you’ve got a super active dad in your life, he’ll be happy to slip his swollen feet into these cloud-like active recovery shoes. The injection molded sneakers are made of a soft sugarcane-based EVA foam that’s incredibly lightweight, washable, and easy to wear anywhere. The unique design of the raised footbed nodes hit key pressure points and stimulate circulation and blood flow with each step. They also feature a cushioned heel and supported arch design that help alleviate any stress that might be caused by plantar fasciitis pain. Whether he’s standing for hours at the gym or on the move outdoors, these are comfortable, breathable while keeping the foot locked-in and secure. Hot tip: If you’re in between sizes, size down.
If the dad in your life doesn’t have a personal skincare routine down pat yet, this Fit Papa bundle from Dwayne ‘The Rock’ Johnson’s skincare line is everything he needs. It includes all the essentials: a facial cleanser, toner, moisturizer, deodorant, and body wash. The three skincare products are fragrance free, so they’re ideal for all skin types. The two shower items, however, come in the brand’s invigorating cedar sport scent – a perfect pick me up any time of day. The whole lot will cost you under $50, they’ll even throw in a free soap bar. Whether he’s getting ready first thing in the morning, midday after or workout or in the evening after a long day at work, this skincare system is sure to elevate his day.
Not all green powders are the same and AG Greens has reigned supreme since it launched in 2010. The nutrient-packed formula is vegan, paleo and keto friendly and is just what the dad in your life needs to kickstart his fitness goals. Each bag comes with the brand’s proprietary blend of 75 high quality vitamins, minerals and whole food nutrients, and contains no sugars or artificial sweeteners. All it takes is one scoop a day added to water or his favorite smoothie to support gut and immune health and the best part, it’ll help him feel sharp and boost his daily energy levels.
Seven-time Formula 1 Champion, AG1 Partner Sir Lewis Hamilton who drinks it every day calls it a “key part of his routine” and loves that it’s “a really easy way to improve overall health,” per the brand’s site. Our recommendation: sign your guy up for the monthly subscription, which is currently 20% off at $79 a month.
Revamp your dad’s at-home gym game with these genius adjustable dumbbells. Instead of taking up an entire wall of space with various dumbbells, these adjust from 5 to 52.5lbs (in 2.5 lb. increments up to 25lbs). Buyers say they’re easy to use, simply select the weight you want with the turn of the dial. Shoppers also note they’re also well balanced with a comfortable grip. “I really like the ability to adjust the sides to different weights, it allows for more exercise variations than possible with traditional dumbbells,” explains one buyer. That’s right, with a wide weight range you can do heavy exercises like shrugs and lunges as well as lighter exercises like curls and raises.
“I’ve had noticeable gains within the first month of this product,” adds the same 5-star buyer.

]]>The post Barry’s Pivots to Co-CEO Model Amid Global Expansion appeared first on Athletech News.
]]>Barry’s has promoted Jonathan (JJ) Gantt to co-CEO to serve alongside Joey Gonzalez as the popular boutique fitness brand eyes domestic and international growth.
Gonzalez and Gantt will work collaboratively on strategic initiatives to drive growth. Gantt has been at Barry’s since 2018, first as chief financial officer and later as president. Barry’s characterizes the pair as a true “left brain/right brain” partnership, each leaning into their functions and departments of expertise
“Over the past 6 years, JJ has been my partner through tremendous growth and through the survival of a global pandemic,” Gonzalez said. “Together, we invested in the systems and infrastructure to prepare us to emerge stronger than ever. I’m beyond excited to formalize this partnership with his new Co-CEO role and to continue professionalizing the business, while maintaining its entrepreneurial spirit and brand equity.”
Before joining the Barry’s corporate team in 2018, Gantt was first introduced to the HIIT brand as a client.
“Nearly a decade ago, I walked into the Barry’s Chelsea studio looking for the Best Workout in the World. Not only did I find what I was searching for, I also found a global fitness community that inspires me every day,” Gantt said. “I am incredibly excited to continue to partner with Joey and the entire Barry’s team in the pursuit of our vision to transform lives worldwide. See you in the Red Room!”
Barry’s also had a recent executive departure: Jenna Hauca, Barry’s vice president of digital, left the brand to take the chief marketing officer role at CrossFit. Hauca spent more than five years at Barry’s, where she led global marketing, and formerly worked at Generator Media + Analytics in New York.
Domestic & International Expansion
Barry’s has been focusing on expansion. At the beginning of this year, the company operated 84 studios across 14 countries and recently announced additional studio locations in Israel, Bahrain, Barcelona, and Egypt. It’s also developing new territories in the Middle East, including the UAE, which has three operating studios, Qatar, Kuwait and Lebanon.
In an interview with Athletech News last year, Gonzalez stated that he believed Barry’s could quadruple its current studio footprint in the U.S. before 2030, which would put it at around 200 domestic studios.
That expansion includes areas like Scottsdale, Arizona, which is likely indicative of Barry’s plans to branch out and open more studios outside of major U.S. markets.
Partnering With Top Brands
Barry’s has also been focusing its efforts on new partnerships. Starting this week, Barry’s and Oatly partnered to bring the beverage brand’s Unsweetened Oatmilk to Fuel Bar menus in Barry’s studios nationwide.
The oatmilk will be featured in a post-workout shake on Fuel Bar menus, called “That Shake with Oatly In It.” Barry’s members are invited to join weekly themed Oatly classes at all U.S. studios on Monday, March 25th, where they will be rewarded with a complimentary post-class smoothie. The partnership began on Monday, March 18, and runs until April 22.
The brand also recently added Ouai Haircare as its newest wellness partner. Ouai’s hair and body products are available in Barry’s locker rooms nationwide. This past fall, the fitness company partnered with Factor, a prepared meal delivery service, and Therabody to feature its recovery products in all U.S. fitness studios.

]]>The post Therabody Pledges $10M to Scientific Research, Adds Advisors appeared first on Athletech News.
]]>Therabody is investing over $10 million in scientific research initiatives, forming a Scientific Advisory Board and partnering with the American College of Sports Medicine (ACSM), the wellness tech brand announced.
The $10 million investment will be allocated toward conducting scientific and clinical research studies across various domains including beauty, wellness and athletic performance over the coming years. Therabody’s Scientific Advisory Board will also be comprised of four experts in their respective fields to guide research strategy, initiatives and product development.
The board is comprised of Dr. Pamela Peeke, a physician and scientist specializing in integrative medicine and women’s health; Dr. Daniel Giordano, a Doctor of Physical Therapy who focuses on performance health and longevity; Dr. Robin Thorpe, a global leader in recovery science; and Dr. Neera Nathan, a Harvard-trained dermatologist and Mohs micrographic surgeon specializing in dermatologic surgery and laser medicine.
Together, the board will advise on research strategy, related initiatives and content, and co-develop new Therabody products related to their areas of expertise.
“I am thrilled to welcome this caliber of scientific leadership to Therabody,” said Monty Sharma, president and CEO of Therabody. “Our Scientific Advisory Board, along with our significant investment in scientific research and partnerships, will ensure we remain at the forefront of our industry and dedicated to developing the most effective, scientifically validated products available today and in the future.”
Therabody x ACSM
Therabody is also committed to working with ACSM on the sponsorship and exhibition of new therapies at the ACSM Annual Meeting in May 2024. The organization is made up of over 40,000 physicians, scientists, educators and health fitness professionals, and is considered a leader in sports medicine and exercise science.
Therabody has long been dedicated to scientific research, demonstrated by an extensive research portfolio with 21 scientific studies completed to date and an additional 26 in progress. Therabody Labs is the company’s in-house team of scientists and engineers to test and optimize their products.
Expanding Access to Wellness
The new announcements come as Therabody has been focusing its efforts on expanding the accessibility of its products, including its new beauty line. Therabody released the TheraFace Vibration Mask, which is a light therapy mask clinically proven to reduce signs of aging. The mask is a complement to the TheraFace Pro, which has different attachments for various skin concerns, such as aging, acne, tension relief, and more.
Therabody founder and chief wellness officer Dr. Jason Wersland spoke with Athletech News last year about the new beauty line and the company’s mission to democratize access to wellness and beauty through its products.
Last year, the wellness tech brand also launched three new massage guns in a push to target everyday wellness consumers: the Theragun Relief, Theragun Sense and Theragun Pro Plus.

]]>The post Therabody Embraces In-Person Wellness Experiences appeared first on Athletech News.
]]>Reset by Therabody is the wellness tech brand’s in-person, experiential wellness hub, with locations across the United States including Los Angeles, Philadelphia, New York and Houston.
The whole-body wellness centers offer clients access to Therabody’s technology, guided by trained experts. Services range from 30 to 60 minutes and include offerings like stretching, percussive therapy, cryotherapy, and cupping. Clients can purchase services a la carte or through memberships.
Now, Therabody has launched Reset Rewards, a membership program that offers exclusive benefits and discounts, including on partner brands like Pressed Juicery, Momentous supplements and Stakt mats.
Athletech News spoke with with Shannon Cooke, vice president of retail at Therabody, to learn more about the new Reset program and how Therabody’s in-person experience drives value for the company and its customers.
“It was really important to us to pick brands that were on the same page as us from a wellness and ethos perspective,” Cooke says. “We wanted to have added value for our guests with our memberships and also give them easier access to self-care. So we partnered with a lot of brands with community health and wellness in mind. We’re very excited to have a high bar to stand shoulder to shoulder with the brands that we selected for the program.”
In terms of the brand selection process, Cooke noted it was both national and local.
“Every single one of our resorts has access to our national brands,” she explains. “Because the local community is so important to us, each of the individual locations has different partnerships that are specific to its city. We have over 10 national brands that we’re working with right now. Then, every city has between five and seven that are local to their community.”
The Importance of In-Person Experiences
As in-person experiences become more important than ever to many brands looking to forge connections with consumers, Cooke noted that Reset was the embodiment of a third-party ecosystem.
“We take all of the cutting-edge therapies and technologies that we create as a product and we bring them to life inside of these spaces,” she says. “We really want to make sure that health and wellness can benefit as many people as possible. There are big barriers to entry for a lot of the services and products that we provide, so creating this kind of warm, safe space for people to come in and try the products is a really important part of our ecosystem for the customer.”
For Therabody, Cooke noted there is also “a really beautiful, experiential brand marketing component to it. People can come in and ask questions, and touch and feel the brand.”
Local Marketing Efforts
When asked about Reset’s biggest challenges and opportunities, Cooke noted that building authentic relationships with local communities is effort-intensive but integral to the brand’s strategy.
“On the ground, guerrilla-style connections are not scalable, but we take being in the community and working with the right groups very seriously,” she said. “But it is very important because those messages and allegiances in the community will show people that they have a place where they can go that represents who they are and where they’re coming from.”
Therabody has a long-term vision to continue using Reset to bring new products to life for the consumer.
“It’s very exciting for me to look at the pipeline and think, ‘How can I bring this to life for the customer that comes into Reset?,'” Cooke says.
Therabody is hoping to create a space where consumers can step outside their comfort zone and learn more about new types of self-care.
“If we have made it more comfortable for someone to participate in cryotherapy, to use LED masks, to get closer to the effective science that we are promoting, then we have done our job,” Cooke adds. “Lowering that barrier to entry for self-care is incredibly important to Reset.”

]]>The post Barry’s Adds Ouai Haircare as Newest Wellness Partner appeared first on Athletech News.
]]>Ouai, the haircare and lifestyle brand founded by Jen Atkin, has forged an exclusive amenities partnership with Barry’s. The two-year tie-up will bring a collection of Ouai product offerings to Barry’s studios across the United States.
Beginning February 22nd, members of the Barry’s community will have access to Ouai’s bestselling products, like the Detox Shampoo, Body Cleanser, and Medium Condition. The brand will also supply hand wash and hand lotion at Barry’s studios. For the partnership, Ouai also created its first Detox Face Cleanser made with glycolic acid to cleanse and exfoliate.
“We love looking for new OUAIs (ways) for people to experience the brand, and getting into locker rooms felt perfect because it’s a time when people really luxuriate in feeling clean,” said Hannah Beals, chief brand officer at Oaui. “Barry’s is the ultimate fitness destination, and the perfect partner for us with an equally hyper-engaged community and premium brand experience.”
Some of the featured fragrances in the partnership include Dean Street, a blend of citrus fruits, magnolia, and amber, as well as Melrose Place, with rose, bergamot and lychee.
The Oaui products will be featured in Barry’s studios including upcoming openings across the country like Scottsdale, Arizona, Studio City, California, Newport Beach, California, and the brand’s new flagship studio in West Hollywood, where Barry’s first West Coast Ride x Lift studio space will be located.
“Given our commitment to sustainability as well as our desire to provide clients with the cleanest and most premium products, we’re confident that this partnership with Oaui will deliver on these brand promises,” said Joey Gonzalez, the Global CEO of Barry’s, noting that Atkin, who is also a Barry’s client, first introduced him to the haircare and lifestyle brand’s products.
“I can’t wait for Barry’s clients to experience these high-quality products and enjoy the best shower straight after the best workout in the world,” Gonzalez added.
Barry’s Invests in Premium Wellness
The tie-up with Ouai is far from Barry’s first partnership in the wellness space. This past fall, the fitness company partnered with Factor, a prepared meal delivery service, on a campaign called “Power Your Potential.” Barry’s members could also participate in Factor-themed classes and sign up for personalized nutrition sessions with Factor dieticians.
Barry’s also partnered with Therabody last year to put recovery stations featuring the Theragun Pro and Wave Roller devices in all of its U.S. fitness studios. Nocco also partnered with Barry’s earlier this year. The sugar-free and low-calorie beverages are available for sale in Barry’s studios nationwide.

]]>The post Therabody Sues Hyperice for Defamation in Latest Escalation appeared first on Athletech News.
]]>In an escalating legal battle in the wellness tech industry, Therabody has filed a lawsuit against rival Hyperice for defamation, trade libel and related causes of action, the company announced. Therabody filed suit in the U.S. District Court for the Central District of California on Friday.
Therabody’s lawsuit is not one of intellectual property, but of defamation, injury to reputation and trade libel, which is the publication of a false statement of fact that results in monetary damages, and other related claims.
The wellness tech company alleges that Hyperice made defamatory statements to an athletics store that carries Therabody products, as well as at a trade show. Therabody also asserted false advertising and unfair competition in violation of the California Business and Professions Code, in addition to the common law claims of defamation and trade libel.
Wellness Tech Wars
Therabody’s defamation suit comes after Hyperice filed lawsuits for patent infringement against Therabody and several other brands earlier this year. Friday’s filing demonstrates that Therabody will go beyond merely defending itself in the patent infringement case.
“Dr. Jason Wersland invented the Theragun in February 2008. Therabody has always been a leader in wellness technology and has secured over 600 global patents,” said Therabody CEO Monty Sharma. “As a response to the statements that Hyperice made referring to us as imitators after it filed its lawsuit against us in January 2024, today we filed suit against them for defamation, trade libel and related causes of action.”
In a statement provided to Athletech News, Hyperice CEO Jim Huether said he believes the defamation suit is an attempt by Therabody to shift the focus away from the patent-infringement litigation involving the two brands.
“As we have previously stated, we firmly believe that almost all of Therabody’s percussion devices infringe on our IP, including the Theragun PRO, Theragun Sense, Theragun Elite, Theragun Prime, Theragun Mini, Theragun Relief, TheraFace PRO, and TheraFace LED,” Huether said. “We believe today’s actions by Therabody are a baseless attempt to shift the focus away from their infringing activity. We will continue to move aggressively against infringing parties to enforce and protect our IP.”
The massage gun market is valued at $542.6 million and will likely reach over $1 billion in the coming years. Earlier this year, Hyperice filed a suit against Therabody and other wellness tech companies for infringing U.S. Patent No. 11,857482, which claims technology dating back to 2013 that is used in products like the Hypervolt 2 and Hypervolt Go 2 massage guns.
In 2019 and early 2020, Therabody filed patent infringement lawsuits against Hyperice and Achedaway, which resulted in Achedaway agreeing to a cease and desist and Hyperice agreeing to stop selling one of its massage devices.
This story has been updated to include comments from Hyperice CEO Jim Huether.

]]>Therabody has added Michael Giordano and Peter Noverr to its executive team as chief revenue officer and chief operations officer, respectively, as the wellness tech company gears up for what it calls “ambitious growth plans.”
Giordano has a background in consumer electronics and will drive Therabody’s market expansion, online and offline. Noverr has experience driving global supply chains and growth engines.
Before Therabody, Giordano was chief commercial officer at Progressive Leasing, and spent 14 years at Samsung Electronics America. Noverr previously worked at The Better Being Co., where he was chief operating officer for three years. He also served as chief operating officer at Jenny Craig and was CEO and co-founder at Level Life Foods, a company that specializes in diabetes management products.
“Mike and Peter bring years of experience, success, and outsized value creation in sales and operations across multiple industries, including Consumer electronics,” said Monty Sharma, CEO and president of Therabody. “We are excited to have them join our excellent Therabody team and supercharge the pursuit of our purpose.”
Therabody Eyes Consumer Wellness
As it gears up for more growth, Therabody will look to build on a big 2023. The wellness tech company unveiled several new products, including the Theragun Pro Plus, the Theragun Sense, and Theragun Relief, in the hopes of increasing product accessibility to new audiences and demographics.
“We’ve become so accustomed to living with pain and it doesn’t have to be that way,” Dr. Jason Wersland, founder and chief wellness officer of Therabody recently told Athletech News, teasing the company’s plans to release more wellness and beauty products. “We started with the pro athletes and have flipped the script to deliver the most effective and innovative therapies to everybody.”
Therabody also partnered with United Airlines to promote wellness travel. United customers flying via United Polaris international business class are provided a Therabody amenity kit with TheraFace eye serum, face spray, hand cream and cleansing towlette. In the United Polaris lounges, travelers will have access to Therabody products like the Lounger, Theragun and RecoveryAir JetBoots.

]]>The post Wellness Real Estate Is Booming – And Just Getting Started appeared first on Athletech News.
]]>The home stands as the epicenter of the wellness real estate market, which is poised to emerge as the number one growth leader across the entire wellness sector with a projected expansion to $887.5 billion by 2027, according to the latest trend forecast from The Global Wellness Summit (GWS).
As the saying goes, Home is where the heart is — but it’s now transforming into a cozy-yet–functional hub as consumers look to cultivate a wellness-inspired environment, largely supported by the shift to remote work, increased time spent at home and the popularity of home-based TikTok trends promoting home-based activities.
“The pandemic not only led to an increase in time spent at home but also heightened health awareness, motivating individuals to take greater control over their wellness,” according to GWS.
At-Home Wellness Products Proliferate
It would make sense that consumers, who are increasingly pivoting towards a more health–conscious lifestyle, are looking to invest in more than just wellness products and create an entire environment of health-supporting tools.
In addition to post-pandemic lifestyle changes, tech advancements have empowered consumers to monitor their health and partake in wellness practices in the comfort and privacy of their homes. From self-care such as the anti-aging TheraFace Mask, medical-grade home health systems, smart furnishings that respond in real-time to well-being preferences or sensory-enhanced designs, consumers now have an array of options to curate their own wellness space.
Functional furnishings also play a pivotal role in the wellness real estate space, with aesthetic pieces that serve fitness and wellness purposes. Ikea, a staple in the functional furniture sector, recently unveiled its first low-profile fitness and wellness collection for consumers and their families to squeeze in a quick workout without needing to invest in an entire home gym.
Beyond furnishings, soundscapes are no longer just background music but a path to wellness, using AI enhancements to give listeners relaxation, focus, or restful sleep.
Wellness-Focused Residences Are on the Rise
As the “2024 Global Wellness Trends” report points out, the pull towards wellness communities, such as Life Time Living, the residential arm of the luxury fitness and lifestyle operator, is also gaining popularity.
Noting Life Time Living’s Green Valley development in Las Vegas, which offers residences with personalized services such as meal plans and comprehensive 360 wellness programs, GWS sees the brand’s new longevity and weight-loss clinic, Miora, as “laying the groundwork” for such services to become integrated into residential services in the future.
GWS also spotlights The Well, a New York City-based luxury wellness club, as an example of what lies ahead for the wellness industry. As The Well expands into residential real estate in Miami, its apartments will tout diffused lighting, water filtration, HEPA air filtration systems, low-VOC paints, organic scents and even charged crystals within the building’s foundation.
Cities and nations are joining the wellness movement, investing in developments prioritizing well-being. Saudi Arabia’s NEOM, expected to debut in 2025, plans to utilize a groundbreaking Digital Twinning system for the longevity of its residents.
“In the future, our homes will evolve into multifaceted ecosystems, merging advanced nanotechnology and empathetic architecture to create living spaces that actively enhance our health and well-being, reshaping how we interact with our environment on a fundamental level,” predicts GWS.

]]>The post Hyperice Sues More Brands, Retailers Over Massage Gun Patent appeared first on Athletech News.
]]>Hyperice has filed 16 lawsuits in federal court against Sharper Image, Homedics, Ekrin Athletics and other retailers including CVS, Costco, Walgreens and Kohl’s related to the alleged infringement of Hyperice’s percussion massage technology. The relevant intellectual property, Hyperice’s U.S. Patent No. 11,857,482, claims technology dating to 2013 that’s used in products like the Hypervolt 2 and the Hypervolt Go 2 massage guns.
The new lawsuits, filed on Tuesday, come two weeks after Hyperice sued rival Therabody for allegedly infringing the same patent.
“The actions that we have taken today are one part of a larger legal strategy to protect our intellectual property rights,” said Jon Howell, general counsel at Hyperice. “We intend to take additional actions in the coming days and weeks to ensure that our innovative line of percussion massage guns is protected.”
In the lawsuits, Hyperice claims that several of the companies’ products, including the Sharper Image Powerboost line and Ekrin massage guns, infringe on Hyperice’s intellectual property. In the coming weeks, Hyperice says it intends to file additional lawsuits, up to 100 in total, against other sellers and retailers believed to have infringed on these patents.
Earlier this month, Hyperice alleged that several of Therabody’s products, including the Theragun Elite, Theragun Pro, Theragun Prime and Theragun Sense, infringe on the same patent.
“At Hyperice’s core, we develop innovative products and technologies to enhance recovery, performance, and longevity for consumers worldwide,” said Hyperice CEO Jim Huether. “For any company working to lead and grow a new and emerging market in the technology sector, the inventive process is extremely important. … There are hundreds of millions of dollars of massage guns sold every year in the U.S. alone, and we believe that a vast majority of these massage guns infringe this patent.”
“We will use aggressive legal actions against all infringers to reinstill credibility of the percussion market,” Huether added.
The massage gun market is substantial, valued at $542.6 million and is likely to reach over $1 billion in the coming years, according to one estimate. Intellectual property disputes in the space are common. In late 2019 and early 2020, Therabody filed patent infringement lawsuits against Hyperice and Achedaway. These lawsuits resulted in Achedaway agreeing to a cease and desist, and Hyperice agreeing to stop selling one of its massage devices.

]]>The post Hyperice Sues Therabody Over Massage Gun Patent Infringement appeared first on Athletech News.
]]>Hyperice has filed a lawsuit in federal court against Therabody, asserting that the company infringed its recently issued U.S. Patent No. 11,857,482. The patent claims technology dating to 2013, which is used in Hyperice products like its Hypervolt Go 2, Hypervolt 2 and Hypervolt 2 Pro massage guns.
In the lawsuit, filed Wednesday in the U.S. District Court for the District of Delaware, Hyperice asserts that several Therabody products infringe on the patent, including Theragun Elite, Theragun Pro, Theragun Prime, Theragun Mini, Theragun Sense and TheraFace Pro. Hyperice said it intends to file more lawsuits in the coming weeks against other companies it believes infringed the patent.
“In 2015 Hyperice launched the Raptor, which at the time was the world’s most advanced percussion massage device. In 2018, when we launched the Hypervolt at a more consumer-friendly price point, our business accelerated rapidly – so much so that we began to see an extraordinary amount of Hypervolt knockoffs and imitators enter the market,” said Jim Huether, CEO of Hyperice. “As a company focused relentlessly on innovation and quality to deliver exceptional products to our consumers, we value ingenuity, and we protect our inventions by obtaining patents.”
“We will use the legal system aggressively to clean up the percussion market from imitators and knockoffs who we believe are using Hyperice’s IP in their devices,” Huether added.
Massage Gun Litigation
The massage gun market is substantial; it was valued at around $540 million in 2023 and is expected to grow to over $1 billion in the coming years. Intellectual property disputes in the space have been frequent. Hyperice and Therabody, in particular, have been involved in previous legal disputes.
In late 2019 and early 2020, Therabody filed patent infringement lawsuits in a U.S. District Court in California against Hyperice and Achedaway. In a settlement, Achedaway agreed to cease and desist its use of a product with a massage gun attachment that Therabody alleged infringed its Dampener Attachment. Hyperice, meanwhile, agreed to stop selling a massage device that had the attachment at issue.
In the lawsuit filed Wednesday, Hyperice is represented by Lawrence LaPorte of Lewis Brisbois Bisgaard & Smith LLP, Ben Herbert of Miller Barondess, LLP and Brian Arnold, associate general counsel and head of IP at Hyperice.
“We will aggressively defend our intellectual property rights and take all appropriate steps to ensure that our innovative products and technology are not misappropriated by opportunists seeking to knock us off,” said Jon Howell, general counsel at Hyperice. “Hyperice has successfully removed hundreds of infringing products globally, and will continue to enforce its intellectual property through litigation in federal court as necessary.”
Therabody didn’t immediately respond to a request for comment on the lawsuit.
