The sports apparel company has partnered with Bryson DeChambeau and Crushers GC

Reebok is making a return to the golf world by partnering with Bryson DeChambeau and Crushers GC, a team in the LIV Golf League. The long-term collaboration designates Reebok as the official apparel and footwear sponsor for DeChambeau and his team. This partnership marks Reebok’s re-entry into the Performance Golf category, with plans to launch new products and initiatives.

Starting in March 2025, Reebok will introduce DeChambeau as the face of its Golf apparel and footwear line, including the debut of Nano Golf, a new on-course performance shoe. The Crushers GC team, which includes Paul Casey, Charles Howell III, and Anirban Lahiri, will compete in head-to-toe Reebok gear. Fans can also purchase official team kits, featuring polos, outerwear, pants, shorts and golf shoes, on Reebok’s website and at LIV Golf events.

Bryson DeChambeau, a two-time major champion spoke about the partnership. “Reebok aligns perfectly with our vision for the future of golf,” said DeChambeau. “We’re eager to push the sport to new heights and broaden its appeal to a global audience.” DeChambeau has achieved 13 professional wins, including two individual titles in the 2023 LIV Golf League season, and had a record-breaking 58 in the final round at The Greenbrier.

Reebok and DeChambeau also plan to launch digital campaigns and community activations to make golf more accessible. These initiatives will include affordably priced products and outreach programs to support individuals with limited access to the sport. DeChambeau’s curated collection, “Bryson’s Picks,” featuring his favorite training gear, will be available ahead of the official golf line launch.

Todd Krinsky, Reebok’s CEO, highlighted the brand’s goal to move beyond traditional golf norms. “Bryson has brought fresh energy to the game, and we’re thrilled to work together to reintroduce Reebok Golf with a contemporary perspective,” Krinsky said.

Reebok owner Authentic Brands Group is reportedly considering an IPO as its founder and CEO says Reebok can become one of the strongest athletic brands in the world

Reebok is set to launch a fresh pair of gym shoes next month—the Nano X5 Training Shoes—celebrating the 15th anniversary of the “Official Shoe of Fitness” that enhances performance support in all areas, from heavy lifts to running.

In addition to a performance comfort collar that ensures a locked-in fit, the Nano X5 offers extra attention to the midsole and outsole, providing cushioning, stability and increased flexibility.

“The Nano X5 celebrates Reebok’s continued commitment to innovation, championing the athlete, and creating the best training shoe on the market,” Reebok product director Tal Short said. “In creating the Nano X5, we looked to our legacy in training and listened to our valued customers’ feedback to create the most comfortable Nano of all time, without compromising on performance.”

The sneaker and apparel brand has tapped fitness influencers Sydney Adams King and Quinn Welychka for a global marketing campaign that highlights the versatility of the Nano X5.

The new kicks will launch on January 24, 2025 on Reebok.com and at select retailers worldwide in a range of color options across women’s and unisex versions, starting at $140.

Authentic Brands Group, a privately held company, acquired Reebok from Adidas in 2022. The group–which owns a multitude of apparel and entertainment brands– is reportedly mulling an IPO.

“Our goal was to get Reebok to $5 billion within three years,” Authentic Brands Group founder and CEO Jamie Salter said in January. “We are now a year into Reebok — we finished last year with $5 billion. And our goal now is to get Reebok within the next three years to $10 billion in retail revenue. And I think it just proves that, look, Reebok was always a great brand. Adidas did exactly what Adidas probably should have done, which was they used all the sort of research, technology to really make Adidas a much stronger brand in the United States at the cost of Reebok. So now, look, it’s Reebok’s turn to now go back and make Reebok one of the strongest athletic brands in the world.”

Meanwhile, Nike, which has experienced slumping sales, appointed Elliot Hill as its new president and CEO in October. The activewear brand is slated to report its Q2 2025 earnings on December 19.

Reebok is expanding its FloatZig Running Shoe line, unveiling two new models, the FloatZig X1 for performance road running and the FloatZig 1 Adventure for outdoor trails.

The launches are accompanied by new colorways for the FloatZig 1 and FloatZig Symmetros, which continue to indicate the Boston-based brand’s investment in the running market. The new colorways and products will be available online Friday, June 28th

“The introduction of Reebok’s New Shape of Running, the FloatZig, was met with incredible success this past spring, igniting momentum as we expand the franchise further,” said Todd Krinsky, Reebok president and CEO. “Receiving praise from the run community and landing on the feet of today’s top celebrities, we’ve reinvigorated Reebok’s place in running and we’re excited to bring the FloatZig to even more runners with the introduction of the FloatZig X1 and FloatZig 1 Adventure.”

The FloatZig X1 is priced at $200 and was designed for marathon racing and long-distance training. It has a carbon fiber plate between foam layers for a responsive and energy-efficient step. The shoe’s mesh upper also promotes breathability and lightness. At only 9.1 ounces with a 6 mm drop, the FloatZig X1 provides stability and support without added weight.

The FloatZig 1 Adventure, which retails at $150, is focused on outdoor adventures. The shoe has a sticky rubber outsole with angled lugs for extra grip on uneven terrain. The FloatZig 1 Adventure weighs 10.3 ounces and has a 6mm drop, making it a supportive but versatile shoe for trail runs or hikes.

The FloatZig Running shoe line was launched earlier this spring with FloatZig 1, a combination of Reebok’s Floatride Energy Foam and Zig Tech technology but in a midsole shape. The shoes retail at $130, a relatively affordable price for performance running shoes.

Reebok is eyeing the running space as a strategically desirable market, although time will tell if the investment pays off.

The design-first running shoe brings comfort and a retro aesthetic to the road, but will it hold up run after run?

Reebok has just launched its newest running shoe, the FloatZig 1, a fashion-forward neutral running shoe with a 90s vibe.

Perfect for springing into spring, the shoes have enough cushion for comfort, while simultaneously providing stability for slippery paths and longer distances.

Athletech News got a look at the FloatZig 1s before they dropped and tested them out to see if Reebok’s newest launch stacks up with popular competitors.

Pros

Reebok is not a brand that first comes to mind for many when considering “serious” running shoe brands. However, runners are likely not to underestimate the brand after the FloatZig 1.

The sneakers are thoughtfully made for medium-distance runners who want a throwback 90s design. My first impression of the FloatZig 1 was that they could be great statement shoes for day-to-day wear as well as for exercising. My pair had neon pink and green accents, while other colorways included more neutral tones or black and white. The design brings the retro basketball style from the 90s to the running space.

credit: Reebok

As someone who has faced ankle and foot pain from long-distance running, I was pleasantly surprised by the softness of the sneaker design. Its lightweight foam is high-quality cushioning that provides springiness without being too heavy.

The Reebok FloatZig 1 shoe is also breathable—its outer mesh is thin enough to not overheat but thick enough for foot support. It also has great grip in all weather conditions, particularly compared to competitors, even in the rain. It is not a speed shoe (the upcoming FloatZig racing shoe will address that need) but it is a reliable option for long training runs.

The FloatZig 1 is also reasonably priced at $130. Compared to many of the popular running brands, which retail for closer to $200, the lower price is a nice change in pace.

credit: Reebok

Cons

While the shoes provided foot support, their ankle support was lacking compared to competitors. I noticed some rubbing on my ankles, reminding me of my preference for a padded heel cup. For those who also want a more snug and padded area in the heel, other brands like New Balance Fresh Foam might be a better option. For those without wobbly gaits, the flexible heel might not be an issue, however.

The shoe is also neutral and has a smaller heel bevel which does not push forward motion. This might make the shoe better for those with hip and knee pain, as the FloatZig 1 likely requires more mobility to move than a rocker shoe that pushes one forward. However, those who want more of a forward spring in their step may want to look elsewhere.

The shoes are also on the heavier side, at 9.8 oz. For comparison, Hoka Clifton 9s are 7.3 oz. For those sensitive to shoe weight, it might be worth taking these for a test run.

One other callout is that the shoe’s laces require a little more attention than some other brands. I had to double knot them more intently than competitors’ laces to prevent them from undoing during walks or runs. This is a simple fix, particularly for those who replace their laces, but worth a call-out.

Final Thoughts

With three more FloatZig models coming this year, including the FloatZig Symmetros (for stability), FloatZig X1 (for racing), and the FloatZig Adventure (trail), it’s clear that Reebok is investing in this new and highly anticipated line.

For a solid and affordable running shoe that will provide comfort during medium-distance runs, look no further than the fun FloatZig 1 shoes.

There are different shoes for different workouts, so finding what’s best comes down to how you plan to achieve your fitness goals

Finding the best workout shoes for the gym is both exciting and overwhelming. You’re ready for the next steps (no pun intended) in achieving your fitness goals, but there are so many options to choose from.

To help you on your fitness footwear journey, Athletech News spoke with personal trainers to find out what they recommend for their own clients.

“The coolest thing about choosing the right trainers (sneakers/workout shoes) is that they can significantly help to enhance your performance as every pair is designed with a different range of movement in mind,” described Savannah Sachdev, a lifestyle and fitness content creator and runner from London. “It’s important to try on multiple brands and not be swayed by what’s ‘trending on Tiktok,’ as everyone’s feet are completely unique.”

One of the best ways to find what works for you is to have a plan of attack. There are different shoes for different workouts and different people, so finding what’s best comes down to how you plan to achieve your goals.

“This is a little dependent on what kinds of workouts people are doing,” explained Chris Crowthers, a personal trainer at Mark Fisher Fitness in Manhattan. “If you’re somebody that is doing general fitness—some strength training, maybe taking some classes, maybe doing some cardio then I think comfort needs to be the top priority.”

Additionally, you want to pick a pair of workout shoes that feel good on your feet—especially if you’re going to wear them every day or every other day for hours at a time.

“Comfort over everything and good arch support,” said Ceren Kalyon, a fitness instructor and run coach at Barry’s and Equinox in Los Angeles. “I spent so many years not knowing what shoes I needed for lifting versus running and wished I had guidance prior to starting my fitness journey. When going to the gym to lift, I like to look for shoes with elevated heels to make sure it enhances my ability to maintain proper posture.”

Check out the best workout shoes, according to personal trainers:

Best for weightlifting/bodybuilding: Reebok Legacy Lifter.

credit: Reebok

If you’re looking for fantastic workout shoes for weightlifting, then you should consider a pair with minimal cushioning, premium quality and overall comfort.

“A good lifting shoe will hugely improve your lifting experience,” explained Sachdev. “A thin, flat and wide sole to maximize stability and increase force transfer during lifts. A solid and raised heel will aid with stability and posture. The slight heel will offer increased ankle mobility and therefore more squat depth as you’ll be in a more upright position.”

Weightlifting shoes should have excellent ankle support.

“Security is important. Laces and velcro straps should be considered as you’ll require extra security with all that additional ankle mobility,” Sachdev continued. “Also, define your style of movement. Olympic lifting, powerlifting and bodybuilding would require a slightly different shoe so make sure to understand your requirements and do your research.”

“Choosing a pair is dependent on your biomechanics and lifting style,” she added. “However, my personal favorite lifting shoe is the Reebok Legacy Lifter. When you initially wear them, don’t be surprised if they feel off, it may take your body some time to adjust to the positioning but ultimately they are a great tool to improve your lifts.”

For peak performance, the Reebok Legacy Lifter collection features shoes that offer stability and security with a midfoot locked-in strap and the company’s iconic inflatable “pump” technology for adjustability.

Best for strength training/powerlifting: Converse All-Star

You should consider the old-school sneaker Converse All-Star—especially high-top Chuck Taylor shoes—for strength training because they can help your body maintain stability, while also enabling you to have complete control when you lift.

“I think the best option is Converse All-Star,” said Crowthers. “You want a shoe that’s going to allow you to really feel the ground and maintain stability and control in your big lifts like squats and deadlifts. It’s really hard to connect to the floor when there’s a lot of cushion, especially if you’re going really heavy.”

Best for running on a treadmill: New Balance 860 V12

credit: New Balance

When looking for a workout shoe for running on a treadmill, you want a pair that’s comfortable with neutral support. It has to have a light and fast design, while also being reliable on various surfaces.

According to Kalyon: “Running shoes are also very dependent on how you feel like to feel the ground, track and treadmill. Also, when running on the treadmill, it’s important to consider your distance and incline, just like you would when you’re running outside!”

She recommends the New Balance 860 V12 sneakers.

“If you want to feel like you’re wearing a pair of gloves on your feet, it offers a light foam and is super bouncy on your feet for that support for runners who need it,” Kalyon said

Best for cross-training: Nike Free Metcon 4

credit: Nike

Looking for the best workout shoes for cross-training? Then check out the very versatile Nike Free Metcon 4. These sneakers are specifically designed for cross-training, offering stability and support to get the best performance with proper weight distribution and a low drop for the lower body. They’re comfortable and cushy for high-impact workouts, while they also provide enhanced traction for climbing.

“Very comfortable training shoes,” raved a satisfied Nike shopper. “I practice HIIT, cardio, lunges, squats, etc every morning and they are absolutely comfortable. They feel very light. They are exactly what I was looking for. Their sole is perfect for training on the ground. Also, my feet feel much more secure when I’m jumping or doing lunges.”

Best for cycling: Nike SuperRep Cycle 2 Next Nature

For cycling, the Nike SuperRep Cycle 2 Next Nature shoes will do the trick. They were designed with support for highest intensity workouts like cycling, while lightweight and breathable—thanks to their mesh materials and cooling vents, which allow for better airflow on the feet. These shoes also have a strap closure with two fastening points for safety and security for a smooth ride. They’re even made from recycled materials and rubber, so you won’t slide off the pedals when going at your top speed.

“Very comfortable and lightweight. Airflow is great,” shared one Nike shopper. “I purchased the red cycling shoes which are true red and look great. Very happy with the shoes and highly recommend them.”

Best barefoot shoes: Vivobarefoot Primus Lite III

It’s believed that working out barefoot is one of the best things to do for strength training because your heel is closer to the ground, which is said to improve balance and increase range of motion. However, most, if not all, gyms don’t allow people to walk around barefoot. So the closest you can get is with a pair of barefoot shoes.

“There are pros and cons to barefoot trainers,” explained Sachdev. “The pros being you can improve the strength of your feet and ankles as they require you to use muscles that your usual shoes would not, while your natural position can help to improve flexibility, balance and posture.”

“The cons being that you require a little more confidence to wear (them) as they do look different, dropping a weight on them would do some damage to you and it could take time to acclimate to them.”

The Vivobarefoot Primus Lite III allows your feet to move naturally to promote foot strength and performance. This pair is also thin, lightweight and wide to accommodate just about any foot type.

Even with office vacancies nationwide, here’s how the fitness and wellness industry can get creative in attracting employees back to the office

CorePower Yoga is looking to downsize its headquarters to accommodate its remote work model for some employees. The largest yoga company in the U.S. is one of many companies transitioning its office space in light of a new era.

According to a report by Denver Business Journal, the yoga company has confirmed it listed its 30,000 square-foot headquarters for sublease at Industry, a corporate campus in Denver. The reason? CorePower Yoga says it’s looking for better options for its staff, who sometimes work from home.

“Among those options, we are looking at sub-leasing some or all of our space. However, we would ideally retain part of it for collaboration, community and connection. We really enjoy the proximity we have to our RiNo studio because it serves as a place where our employees can practice together and be part of our community,” a CorePower Yoga spokesperson told Denver Business Journal.

RiNo, nicknamed after River North Art District, is a trendy neighborhood known for its fun vibe and colorful murals.

CorePower Yoga’s decision to downsize is just one example of an ongoing issue that employers, real estate developers and city planners are dealing with as remote and hybrid work continue to eliminate office spaces. So how can employers create an appealing work environment where employees want to be present?

Vacant offices across the nation

In an adjacent fitness category, Reebok listed its entire Boston Seaport District office for sublease last fall after moving into the five-floor space in 2017. The office even included a 30,000-square-foot gym.

The decisions by CorePower Yoga and Reebok aren’t an anomaly, of course. The office market has struggled since the pandemic and the resulting changes in traditional work models – a shift that has occurred nationwide.

CorePower Yoga

New York City’s office vacancy rate and available sublet space have hit new records. In Connecticut major employers such as UnitedHealthcare, Prudential Financial and Voya Financial have announced they would downsize their office spaces in light of embracing remote or hybrid work.

Concerns about a shrinking real estate footprint have resulted in coalitions forming to address rising vacancies with actionable insights on how businesses can entice employees to show up to the office and be eager to be there.

Some landlords have responded by adding fitness centers, outdoor gathering areas that include BBQs and golf simulators when renovating vacant spaces to attract corporate tenants.

Some companies view the office as an extension of their brand

While a pool table and meditation room are nice perks, some companies see their workspace as an extension of their identity, hoping to keep the brand at the forefront of their employees’ minds and actions.

Consider Alo Yoga, a lifestyle and fashion brand that includes Alo Moves, a fitness platform. Its global headquarters, just a few minutes from its Beverly Hills store, was previously the home of Sony Music until it was renovated in 2020.

A massive living tree greets corporate headquarters employees, with Alo Yoga co-founder and co-CEO Danny Harris believing that “mindful messaging” begins at home (aka the office).

Forbes described the space as a “Zen biohacker’s dream office.”

As opposed to a dusty treadmill in an empty room sufficing as an office gym, Alo features state-of-the-art fitness equipment from iRope, Hoist Fitness Systems, SkiErg by Concept 2 and Clmbr. A group fitness space is also available for yoga, boxing, sound baths and meditations.

Alo even goes further with red light saunas, cold plunge pools and a cryotherapy chamber.

A joint effort among tenants

Some real estate developers have become creative in other ways, collaborating with businesses looking to have an on-site presence. Simply being aware of amenities in relation to a building’s possible tenants can have a positive impact.

TF Cornerstone did just that with Reside, a medical provider, in its Carnegie Hall Tower office building in New York. Reside offers an on-site primary care physician who is available to all the company’s tenants, while also offering acupuncture, a dietician and a therapist, along with other wellness services.

Reside has proven effective in the building, TF Cornerstone’s Jake Elghanayan told Commercial Observer last month.

“Tenants have responded very strongly to this, and (Reside) helped our tenants work through health-related office policies, especially during the pandemic,” Elghanayan said.

While wellness amenities can increase employee productivity and create happy and healthy employees, TF Cornerstone has also found that adding an entertainment option, such as a golf simulator, can help employees take a well-deserved break to work on their golf swing.

Opportunities for fitness and wellness companies

While reports indicate that remote work is here to stay, with Upwork suggesting that 36.2 million people in the U.S. will be remote by 2025 (an increase of 16.8 million people compared to pre-pandemic data), there are numerous opportunities for the fitness and wellness industry.

Whether it’s becoming a tenant in a building where remote work is not an option or launching corporate wellness programs that span in-person and hybrid employees, fitness and wellness companies have an edge.

Companies nationwide have begun to recognize the importance of investing in employee well-being, especially after a difficult few years. Corporate wellness programs are increasing, especially those with a personalized approach. Due to differing work models between employees, wellness programs that use digital tools and platforms, like virtual meditation or fitness classes, can easily fulfill a need.

Wearable technology is another area where the wellness industry can support employers and staff, especially when tied to wellness initiatives. ŌURA launched a business platform last year providing key health data and insights to track stress and sleep deprivation, both of which are costly for employers.

If Gympass’s recent findings are any indication, regardless of what a fitness or wellness company decides to do to advance its presence in the corporate world, it will be appreciated by employees.

As the world’s largest employee well-being platform, Gympass revealed that it received over 250 million check-ins to its network of physical and mental health partners, signaling that just as remote and hybrid work is the new norm, employers are now also expected to support the health and wellness of their employees.

According to President Matt O’Toole, Reebok wants to be a challenger brand telling a “bolder story than its competitors” and is also looking to broaden its scope to athletic lifestyle rather than just traditional fitness products.

It comes as no surprise that Reebok is trying to reinvent itself. Over the past decade the brand has struggled to solidify its identity and define its niche amongst a competitive market of fitness brands.

Adidas, which acquired Reebok in 2006 for $3.8B, has plans to sell off the brand in the near future driven by continued underperformance and accelerated by the COVID-19 pandemic. As it prepares for its future, Reebok has released the first look at its “refreshed brand creative direction” under Vice President of Creative Direction Kerby Jean-Raymond.

Jean-Raymond joined Reebok in September of 2020 and is responsible for defining a new vision for the brand along with Artistic Marketing Director Jide Osifeso.

According to Retail Drive, a video collection dubbed “Reconnect” is the first step in changing Reebok’s creative direction.

“Reconnect” features a series of vignettes and one long-form video exploring sports and community directed by Jonas Lindstroem. The videos are available on YouTube and will be rolled out through Reebok’s Instagram over the next few weeks.

According to President Matt O’Toole, Reebok wants to be a challenger brand telling a “bolder story than its competitors” and is also looking to broaden its scope to athletic lifestyle rather than just traditional fitness products.

A Year Into the Pandemic, Fitness Trainers Are Finally Seeing a Power Shift In Their Favor
Fitness | Well + Good | Feb. 16, 2021

Athletech’s Take:
COVID was not kind to the fitness industry, and fitness trainers felt that pain probably more than anyone else in the sector. Trainers who once thrived off human interaction at gyms across the nation lost their livelihood as gyms shuttered. As a result, trainers were forced to flex their muscles and stretch to make ends meet. Many have moved their clients Online, others have taken positions with virtual streaming apps or some have taken the opportunity to start new businesses. While the pandemic was paralyzing for many at first, the future looks brighter as trainers are presented new opportunities driven by the rapidly evolving virtual fitness industry.

Fifteen years after Adidas bought Reebok with the goal of competing with Nike, Adidas has plans to sell the struggling Reebok brand (significantly less than what they originally bought it). While the acquisition might be deemed a failed attempt, it wasn’t a total disaster. There were bright spots including returning Reebok briefly to profitability in 2016, strong celebrity collaborations such as with Cardi B giving the struggling brand some street credit, and the launch of a vegan sneaker demonstrating their commitment to sustainability efforts. While we are sad about the parting we at Athletech are definitely curious about what the future holds for the iconic American brand.

Mental Health | New York Times | Feb. 17, 2021

Athletech’s Take:
“Wellness has become synonymous with productivity and self-optimization. But wellness isn’t something that can be downloaded and consumed.” While mental wellness apps that we believe provide benefit to our lives such as Calm, Headspace, Fabulous, Rootd and Liberate are everywhere, the reality is that the impacts of the pandemic are far more complex than can be addressed via a meditation or sleep app alone. Millions of people who have experienced isolation and fatigue feel further disconnected from their communities. They are overworked, overwhelmed and exhausted. What do they really need? What can companies do to provide them reprieve?

CrossFit Games champ Rich Froning condemned the comments, calling them divisive.

Brands, gyms, and athletes are ending their affiliations with CrossFit after CEO Greg Glassman tweeted an insensitive remark about George Floyd and the current Black Lives Matter protests happening around the country.

Some experts believe that rising pollution levels, coupled with more frequent pandemics, could make masks part of our workouts long after the current crisis has passed.

“This is the new normal unfortunately,” says Don Albert, head of Reebok’s European innovation lab, known as the Creation Center. “In many parts of the world, particularly Asia, people regularly wear masks to exercise outside. The coronavirus is just increasing the need for masks.”
