TrainingPeaks, an app designed for endurance coaches and athletes, has acquired the virtual cycling platform IndieVelo, now rebranded as TrainingPeaks Virtual.

The news follows TrainingPeaks’ recent launch of its Strength Workout Builder, which allows coaches to gain insights into their athletes’ performance in strength training.

The beta version of the new platform is now free for both new and existing TrainingPeaks athlete accounts and includes a custom physics engine designed to enhance power accuracy and deliver a more authentic riding experience. The TrainingPeaks platform offers users the ability to discover training plans, schedules, and structured workouts that can be effortlessly synced over, along with ride data that uploads automatically.

After March 2025, TrainingPeaks Virtual will be integrated into TrainingPeaks Premium. Seamless syncing of TrainingPeaks zones, FTP, workout compliance and other experiences are planned for the future, according to the brand.

“We want to ensure that coaches have a seamless onboarding experience for their athletes into the world of training,” TrainingPeaks president Lee Gerakos said. “There’s a lot of friction today that creates barriers and challenges for our coaches, and this acquisition helps introduce athletes to that world more easily.”

With the acquisition of IndieVelo, TrainingPeaks coaches will be able to enhance their community reach with virtually hosted group rides, events and races while giving them the ability to create custom avatars, bikes and team kits.

“This acquisition brings both the investment and the expertise needed to take it to the next level — creating a fully integrated, seamless training and racing platform, both indoors and out,” Dr. Gilbert said.
